Engineering codes of ethics, case scenarios, and societies that enforce them Essay
Morals can be characterized as a branch inside the more extensive field of reasoning whose primary concern is tending to the issue of ethical quality. Ethical quality as an idea tries to legitimize activities as positive or negative, correct and whether such activities are advocated and prudent. Morals in itself is partitioned into numerous classes which regularly shift to suit the current issue. From a general point of view, morals can be broadly assembled into hypothetical and useful morals. The hypothetical viewpoint is worried about hypothetical implications of good suggestions and the way in which their fact esteems can be found out. The functional part of morals tries to address the chance of accomplishing moral results in a given circumstance (Luegenbiehl, 2003). Designing morals in this setting is a piece of applied morals that is slanted towards the assessment and the setting of measures concerning the obligation of an architect to the overall population, how they ought to take care of their customers, their obligation to their manager, and their commitment towards improving and keeping up the ethical uprightness of the building calling. Building as a calling is exceptionally various as far as the potential branches one can wander into. This decent variety make a portion of the building fields share truth be told, constrained standards. While the majority of these orders will in general supplement one another, these specialists will undoubtedly work in various situations. As such there can't be a bringing together code of morals for the entire designing society. Moral codes in this calling are to a great extent reliant on the specific field of specialization and the purview of training. Another calculate that comes play is whether a specialist is giving consultancy administration to his customers or the architect is a worker of a given assembling venture (Colby and Sullivan, 2008). In many nations, the architects who take care of their customers are ordinarily alluded to as expert designers and are normally authorized. They comply with codes that guarantee proficient morals and to a bigger degree administered by various rules. Their partners who practice in the assembling business need to comply with specific laws, key among them being whistle blowing and furthermore the law of item obligation. Their training inclines more towards business morals when contrasted with designing morals. Proficient designers are for the most part in private practice and are constantly liable for drafting a portion of the codes of morals that oversee their calling. Specialists who practice in the mechanical area detest accreditation by the significant government offices. Despite the field and area of training, these designers face comparative moral issues. Comparable as in they share a similar underlying drivers yet just change marginally in structure contingent upon the control and the area of training (Luegenbiehl, 2003). Building social orders have for quite a while drafted their own codes of morals. These codes of morals have experienced a progression of refinement after some time in an offer to make them increasingly practical to conquering moral issues. Such codes of morals typically go about as general rules since moral issues are assorted and as such a portion of these codes must be acclimated to suit the current circumstance. In the United Kingdom, a striking model is the ââ¬ËInstitution of Civil Engineers (ICE)ââ¬â¢, which decided to join its moral codes into the guidelines of lead. The code of morals in designing essentially tries to guarantee the prosperity of people in general, the customers on account of an expert designer, the business for the architects who practice in the business, and for the upgrade of the ethical respectability of the building calling (Colby and Sullivan, 2008). Any designing calling is defenseless to various dangers some of which might be inconvenient to a more extensive segment of the populace. In view of this hazard, the main point of a designer is to guarantee the security and wellbeing, of the overall population as well as for themselves and their coworkers. Specialists are required to buy in to rules that guarantee supportable advancement over the span of their endeavors. Since the building calling is differing, a designer who might be exceptionally able in his field of specialization will most likely be unable to accomplish much in a different line of designing. For the greater part of the designing social orders the world over, there are essential moral codes that they appear to partake in like manner. A code of morals in the field of building consistently confines designers to adhere to their territories of specialization. This is to abstain from uncovering himself and the overall population to the fast approaching peril. A designer is required to talk reality on the specialized parts of a vocation and keep up an expert connection with the business or his customer. Irreconcilable situation is a certain method to bargain and as such ought to consistently be maintained a strategic distance from by a specialist. An architect should protect the respectability and the enthusiasm of the building calling. In as much as a designer should propel vocation savvy, they have a commitment of guaranteeing proficient development for their youngsters. As indicated by the law of whistle blowing, a designer is more obliged to security than he is to the customer or to his boss. This law requires the specialist to report situations where their bosses or customers neglect to follow their bearings and in the process are presenting the general population to potential threat. In certain occasions, some the important specialists neglect to make a move and this may wind up in the designer opening up to the world (Luegenbiehl, 2003). The most remarkable instances of calamity in the field of designing have been brought about by both specialized and moral issues. While a portion of these mishaps have been because of specialized angles and structure deficiencies, others have been because of wasteful administration culture. A portion of the cases that have been built up to have a moral measurement on their event incorporate the Chernobyl debacle, Bhopal calamity, Boston molasses mishap, Johnstown Flood, just to make reference to however a couple (Pfatteicher, 2001). Chernobyl debacle was an episode that occurred in Ukraine, and it included the emergency in an atomic reactor plant. This mishap was to a bigger degree accused on human mistake. The faculty were accused for utilizing a constrained ââ¬Ëoperational reactivity edge. ââ¬â¢ The calamity caused to the individuals living inside the area was massive in gravity and the greater part of the impacts were of a drawn out nature. The emotional wellness of the individuals was amazingly influenced; instances of malignant growth were later answered to be widespread in the territory. Every one of these impacts came to fruition because of the illumination of the zone by radioactive material. The laborers were additionally influenced with more than thirty losing their lives inside a range of a quarter of a year from the hour of event of the fiasco. A warning gathering that was later framed to investigate the reason for this debacle accused the individuals who were answerable for the structure of the force plant. They neglected to consider certain appropriate parts of the plan which could have forestalled such an event or which could have guaranteed that the mishap didn't continue to arrive at the level it did. It was understood that over the span of planning and resulting testing of turbine generators, it was managed without the fuse of frameworks that were liable for specialized security. This was seen to have been a break of the wellbeing arrangements that were required for the genuine specialized exercise (Pfatteicher, 2001). Probably the most remarkable associations that are worried about building morals incorporate the ââ¬ËInstitute of Civil Engineers (ICE)ââ¬â¢ in the United Kingdom, the ââ¬ËCanadian Society for Professional Engineers,ââ¬â¢ and the ââ¬ËNational Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE)ââ¬â¢ which have been believed to support for the maintaining of moral practices inside the designing field. The explanations behind their foundations are to guarantee that engineers in private practice, the legislature and in the assembling division can buy in to a typical code of morals inside a given locale. Such bodies have certain corrective measures to their individuals in situations where morals seem to have been sidelined in deciding. To guarantee that architects hold fast to such codes set by these associations, it is required to be enlisted with specific bodies inside offered locales to rehearse as a specialist (Haws, 2001). There has been a general float towards figuring a widely inclusive code of morals for all architects all through the world. This has been noted by the way that the codes figured by most social orders all through the world give off an impression of being having sure similitudes. While this gives off an impression of being an honorable thought, some room and remittances should be permitted to suit the various societies on the planet. It is considered that building up a lot of basic moral codes and enhancing it with extra sections that respect the social setting and the specific field of specialization inside designing. The codes ought to be set out in such a way, that no disarray can be accounted for inside a given purview (Luegenbiehl, 2003). References: Colby, A. , and Sullivan, W. A Clean Well Lighted Place- Ernest Hemmingway Summary Free Essays
ââ¬Å"A Clean, Well-Lighted Placeâ⬠Theme Analysis ââ¬Å"I wouldnââ¬â¢t want to be that old. An old man is a nasty thing. â⬠ââ¬Å"Not always. We will write a custom essay sample on A Clean Well Lighted Place- Ernest Hemmingway Summary or any similar topic only for you Order Now This old man is clean. He drinks without spilling. Even now, drunk. Look at him. â⬠-Ernest Hemmingway The story written by Ernest Hemmingway tells of a deaf old man who is in conversation with others at a cafe in the late night hours. The others in the storyââ¬â¢s setting share a significant difference of age and opinion. It seems they depict their ages as stages of life. The story contains a lot of noteworthy symbols, behaviors and decisions that give us hints as to what the story is supposed to represent. Characters within the story are divided into four age groups, each having different characteristics and behaviors, however all waiting for their time to in which they face the inevitable and depart from the physical realm of living and into what follows. The old man is described as a deaf and depressed man who tried to take his life away a week prior the storyââ¬â¢s setting. It is said in the story the man is financially stable and is a frequent guest in the cafe that is well lighted and clean, unlike bars or bodegas . The story also is able to show the old manââ¬â¢s loneliness, sadness, and distress. Also, the waiters are sharing significant differences between them; the young waiter is in a hurry to leave work and go home to his wife, he is unsympathetic for the old man, he shows a disliking to him, and displays disgust towards the idea of getting old and the old man himself. It seems as if the young bartender has no appreciation for the old man life and holds no regard to it. Unlike the older bartender who tries to understand the old manââ¬â¢s condition and is curious of his suicide attempt. The older waiter himself is not in the hurry, after leaving work he goes to the bar to get a drink and then finally falls asleep upon the dawn. The last characters, however not as significant but symbolic, are a young soldier and a young girl who are just strolling through the street at night. The story reveals interesting patterns based on the age of characters. The young couple strolling through the street at night gives us as an image of how young people are free and independent. Having their whole life in front of them, they explore their surroundings, strive for new experiences and enjoy life without taking a break to stop and think where it is leading. The young bartender is a described to be in the next level in life. He is probably one or perhaps two decades older then the soldier and young girl. Hemmingway gives us indirect hints of the characteristics in which a middle stage life in an adult would exhibit. The young bartender is in a hurry to leave the cafe and go home to his wife. ââ¬Å"I wouldnââ¬â¢t want to be that oldâ⬠he says during the dialog with another bartender. At some point, upset about having to serve the old man who prevents him to close up the cafe and go home he even says, ââ¬Å"He should have killed himself last week. â⬠It shows how this character is captivated by own needs and wants. It shows his life as having purpose or meaning, time for himself, and an outlook for the future of him and his family. Perhaps, at this point of life, Hemmingway tries to tell us that people are confined within their own personal spaces, living a fast-paced life and trying to accomplish as much as possible with no little regard towards others. They do not look towards lifeââ¬â¢s philosophy and take that approach very lightly carefully avoiding the truth behind life, because theyââ¬â¢re simply disgusted by it. Conceivably, materialistic good is a measure of happiness at that age. The conversation between him and the other bartender reveals that in his mind despair over life couldnââ¬â¢t be caused by anything but money. When the older bartender tells him heââ¬â¢s got everything ââ¬â confidence, youth and work, the young bartender simply replies ââ¬Å"Come on. Stop talking nonsense. . . .â⬠The older bartender, no doubt, is closer emotionally to the old man. He is far from being in a hurry. The sight of the financially well old man who frequently stays until the last possible drink at the cafe, and has tried to commit suicide week before captivates him. In a way he can relate to the old man, and views him as someone who, like him, has contributed his time and life by years. He questions the younger bartender about circumstances around his suicide attempt as well as trying to defend the old man from arrogant opinions expressed by his co-worker. Why didnââ¬â¢t you let him stay and drink? â⬠the old waiter asks the younger bartender when he refused to serve the old man anymore even though the time for closing was an hour away. Then he concludes ââ¬Å"I am of those who do not want to go to bed. [I am] with all those who need a light for the night . . . We are two of different kinds. â⬠The author leaves it to our imagination to interpret what the bartender mea nt by the ââ¬Å"lightâ⬠for the night however the distinction between two characters that is linked to their age is significant. The older waiter is slowly getting through the stage of life preceding that of the old lonely man. The ââ¬Å"lightâ⬠might be a symbol for the hope or motivation for the life to continue. Younger characters of the story did not have a need for that hope as they had everything ââ¬â confidence, youth, work and most importantly ââ¬â the time. The old man is the most important figure in the story. Even though he is not part of conversation and does not say more than simple words, he is a symbol of the last stage of oneââ¬â¢s life. Hemmingway shows that stage as depressing, a lonely time in oneââ¬â¢s life. He shows the old man as having realized the meaningless of life, the old manââ¬â¢s need to move on. The suicide attempt was significant as well as the fact that the old man was deaf, because it shows the manââ¬â¢s loneliness, his need to be with others, and is desperate attempt to end the silence, he feels he is confined to his own lonely thoughts by being deaf and wants nothing more than to end the silence with death, because death or life means nothing to him. The story is constructed in a very enlightening way; by including the different age groups and the different opinions of life and its worth to others. It is interesting to see the contrasting views of the individuals as they journey through life and all its experiences. Take the epigraph above; it shows to vivid contrast between the old and the young bartender. The young bartender shows his disgust in getting old, and his avoidance of it, while the old bartender in his quote shares his appreciation for maturity and the lifeââ¬â¢s worth. It is something to take from this story that as we all live to understand life and its meaning with different views and opinions, we share one thing in common and that is the inevitable. Media for Social Change
The responsibility of the media to act as an avenue for social change has been ignored for several years when various TV shows have presented various programs to serve capitalism. In this way, information is conveyed to the audience without engaging the audience in the production of those shows and hence these shows normally serve the purpose of entertainment but ignore the important part of transforming the society.Advertising We will write a custom thesis sample on Media for Social Change specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More When the audiences are involved in the production of these programs, the content of these programs will affect the audience directly or indirectly and hence capable of changing their way of thinking or attitudes on certain issues that affect our society such as challenging racism (Alia, 2004). The responsibility to transform the society socially therefore lies on the producers and the users of these shows and no t the owners or the investors of these media avenues. The role of the users will be to influence the producers while the producersââ¬â¢ role is to produce and direct these shows for the society. The producer therefore should use his or her professional skills to produce for the society. However, he or she cannot make a great impact alone and therefore has to involve everyone in the society. As stated by Bartkowiak (2009), the possibility of changing our society through TV shows depends on the involvement of the society just like in other media like the newspapers and magazines. One of the ways of ensuring that every one in the society is involved is to focus on documentary shows. Unlike other programs that mainly follow the commercial pattern, documentary shows are capable of transforming our society as well as achieving success in media entertainment business (Yadav, 2004). A television show that promotes a better understanding of each other in the society is the one that is cap able of transforming that society. Better understanding is vital for resolving social conflicts among different groups in the society. ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Konkonkon is a documentary of life of ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢no bodyââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢. This show presents different individuals in depth and reflects the conflicts in the society. No body here means people who are homeless, disabled persons, prostitutes, and other disadvantaged people in the society who are often forgotten in the society and thatââ¬â¢s the reason the show named them nobody.Advertising Looking for thesis on communications media? This show involves presentation of someoneââ¬â¢s everyday life and how the person goes on expressing personality, individual traits and charact er rather than suppressing them to adopt a role (Nichols, 2010). The name of the show itself is very important as it tells from the first insight what the show entails and therefore one is able to reflect what probably is in the show. This show is important for the society since it gives these challenged people an opportunity to present their case over the media that has often ignored them. This takes place through their participation as guests in these shows. They have an opportunity to share their story in the society and to let others know that they are ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢humanââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ a value as a part of this society. The search for these guests are very important since the guest that will appear in this kind of show has a greater impact on the audience. The guest should therefore be a role model to nobody person. They should also be people who are able to testify their stories freely without any condition or favoritism of any manner. This person has to be one who had trans formed from nobody to somebody for him to be qualified as a guest and as a role model. In this way these people are able to use the media as a propaganda tool to represent themselves and from their stories they are able to inspire and transform the society. Once a theme has been developed, the searches for the guests begin. This can be done through moving within the society informing people about the topic and the people come and thatââ¬â¢s when the qualified person is chosen. The qualified people are also got from the audiences of this particular show through their comments about the show. The activities of these people are therefore watched and the project may take even a whole year. This is very important to ensure the content of that particular show is as accurate as possible. In this way the show presents a real life story telling by the guest without directing.Advertising We will write a custom thesis sample on Media for Social Change specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This kind of show has the effects of transforming the way of thinking of several audiences as most of them will be asking themselves questions that they answer themselves while others will be sympathizing with the quests hence they get inspired. It also highlights the notion of the public and how popular genres are connected in the society (Hill, 2007). This is very important for the social change. It is also true that when the audiences are frequently subjected to questioning their lives, they learn and quickly fix the knowledge into their minds and therefore helps them change their mind after watching the show. This may be racism or even segregation that is affecting the society. Documentary TV shows has therefore moved from those days that they reflected the uncertainties and tensions of the modern world (Chapman, 2009). This shows that the participation of the audiences, the guests and the quality of the quests are very important f or the producer of this show and hence the participation of everyone in the process is the key to success of the show in transforming the society. What is important here for the producer is therefore to enable the society develop new thought, sediment new knowledge and put this particular knowledge into action. This then results to the change in the society thinking and attitudes concerning certain issues in the society. The focus in the media therefore should be to transform the society and not mainly commercialize the shows just for self gaining. We should think about the society that we live in and ask ourselves who will clean our house for us or do we leave our own house dirty and proceed to clean others. It is important to note that even though we may be making a lot of profit the society may not be at peace and we should always do what we think is the best. References Alia, V. (2004). Reflection Essay Topics #038; Ideas
Reflection Essay Topics #038; Ideas A piece of academic writing that is called a reflective essay implies a depiction and analysis of the authorââ¬â¢s personal experience. When composing such writing, remember that you should concentrate more on your inward feelings instead of the occasion itself. The readers ought to imagine a picture of your identity and understand what circumstances have led to such a formation of your personality. The following topics do not need much research but are rather aimed at developing your introspection capabilities. In this manner, your ideas and opinions should form the largest part of the reflective essay. Keep in mind, however, that although this kind of writing gives you almost unlimited creative freedom, it must also be logical so that the readers are able to understand the sequence of actions, thoughts, and feelings that led to a particular conclusion. Topics: The Moment of Great Pain Pain performs a significant role in the development of any person. It may become a good mentor and catalysis of inner changes of your individuality. Try to recollect the moment when you experienced severe pain, and then tell a story about it. Describe what you felt and how it affected your later life. Consider if there was a lesson that you learned through this experience. First Experience of Racism or Inequality Think about a moment from your past when you understood that you experienced inequality. Even if it was not your personal experience, maybe some of your friends or family members encountered it, or you noticed it in the streets, at school, or even on television. Explain your opinion concerning injustice and describe your emotions when you see it. A Visit to a Museum A reflection essay about a visit to a museum is a common assignment among educational institutions. Your paper is supposed to show the knowledge you have gained after the tour and the feelings you have experienced during it. Ensure to incorporate as many details as possible so that your readers could experience this event by themselves. The Experience of Failure Try to recollect the first or the most heartbreaking experience of failure that ever happened in your life. Focus on your emotions when you understood that you failed. What conclusion have you made from that event? Was this experience helpful in your later life? Do not be afraid to be emotional since it is even essential for such a topic. Besides, try to make your story logical. The Role of Education in Your Life Being a student is a matter of choice. So first, you can explain why you decided to get a degree. Was it your personal decision? Did your parents or friends impose it? You either can write about how vital education is in your present or how essential it is going to be in the future life, or even both. Besides, consider not only practical but also emotional aspect of education: how do you feel while studying, and how challenging it is for you? Your Ideas about the Essence of Love Although millions of people did it millions of times, try to give your own definition of love. Provide examples from your life: think if you have ever experienced love and how it felt. If you never experienced it, then explain how you would know if you were in love. You can also write about your attitude towards the role of love in human life. The Role of Religion in Your Life The topic of religion is rather broad and is often controversial, but what you have to do is to focus on your attitude towards religion. Remember to put tolerance in the first place, since even if you are an atheist, it does not mean that religion doesnt play a particular role in your life. Describe how religion intertwines your life (though parents, school, or yourself) and how you feel about it. What Was the Biggest Challenge in Your Life? Life is challenging in all its manifestations, so it would not be that hard for you just to pick one of them. Write about it using descriptive language and tell the reader how you feel when you pass or fail that challenge. You have to make your readers understand how your personality changed after this event. Unfair Punishment from Your Parents Our understanding of justice forms in early childhood and develops in later life. The most common example of an unjust punishment is when there are two children of the same gender with a small age gap between them. The older child is often unjustly punished since he or she should be more mature than the sibling is and behave better. There are many other examples and moments that you might come up with, but remember that it is essential to focus on your inner self and your feelings. How has it changed your personality, affected your later life, and changed your definition of justice? Your Happiest Memory from the Childhood For most people all over the globe, childhood is the happiest time in their life since it is so naive and carefree. Think about your childhood and describe it from the perspective of the person you are at present. Tell whether it was happy and carefree, or maybe it was tough and challenging. Then, recollect the most joyful moment you have experienced being a child, and retell it. Provide some background that has led to this moment, explain why you felt happy back then, and describe your feelings from the perspective of the kid you were. Moving to a New Place Relocation always causes particular emotional feedback, be it a new country or city, or even an apartment or school. Tell a story from your life when you have to move to another place and express your attitude towards it as well as emotions caused by relocations. For instance, it often seems like the previous place was much better than the new one, but over time, a person gets used to changes. Getting Married It is not essential to be married in order to compose a reflective essay on this topic. You can write about your attitude towards marriage, your plans for future connected with it, or your expectations concerning the spouse and wedding. You may also ask your parents or friends who are married about their experience and convey it into your essay, accompanied by your own opinions. Your Most Memorable Dream or Nightmare By their very essence, dreams are the uncontrollable act of reflection. They show up our hidden desires, fears, or sometimes the voice of conscience. Many people have one or few dreams or nightmares that they remember for a long time. In this manner, try to recall one of them and describe, paying attention to details. Then, strive to analyze it and reflect on your life. Was there a reason why a certain dream occurred? First Dating Experience Describe your experience of the first date with the person you liked. Write about how it all started; whether it was you, who made the first step or was it your partner. Was the date successful or was it a failure? Tell about your expectations toward it and then compare them to reality. Keep in mind the most critical thing ââ¬â focus more on your emotions and inner experience rather than on the event itself. Your First Job Experience This topic can be correlated to the previously discussed topic concerning your biggest challenge. Recall your first day at work and describe how you felt back then. People always tend to stress too much the first time they are given a responsible task. Share your experience of overcoming inner obstacles that appeared in your mind during that first time. The Role of Social Platforms in Your Life The modern world is based on and heavily dependent on technologies, and that is why it is essential to give due attention to the things we use, whether they are necessary for us at all. In this manner, describe the role of some social platforms like Facebook in your life. How do you use them and how important are they for you? Would you be able not to use them anymore? Ask yourself a bunch of questions, and it is likely that you will understand something new during writing. Your Favorite Book Pick one of the books you have read that made a lasting impression. Provide a short description of the reading: name author, title, date of publishing, and brief annotation of the work. Then, tell what is so special about this book for you mainly. Did it push you to some revelation and inner changes? Try to explain the impact of this book on your later life and behavior. Have You Ever Isolated Yourself from Society? Describe your solitary experience if such ever happened in your life. Maybe you went wandering in dense woods, high mountains, or even isolated yourself from the world in your room. Explain the reason for your decision and tell whether there was something that you understood from that period of complete solitude. Observations of Nature For this topic try to spend some time observing nature and writing down notes of your thoughts. For instance, when you watch how birds build their nest, thinking about how similar that is to a young couple decorating their apartment would be good. Alternatively, while observing how ants are almost aimlessly running around their anthill, you can link it to people from big cities who hurry up to their work. Try to give the things you observe some deeper meaning through reflection. Extreme Kinds of Sport Have you ever participated in an extreme kind of sport? Or, would you like to do it sometime in the future? Describe one or several sporting activities that you find dangerous. Try to explain why people tend to engage in extreme practices that might lead to fatality. Write about your attitude towards participating in an activity that carries a risk, and reflect on whether you would do it and why. Conclusion The topics mentioned above ought to help you understand the essence of reflective essay. In fact, you can change and paraphrase the topic titles according to your desires and preferences. Keep in mind that reflective essay is not only aimed to tell a story about yourself, but also to identify your personality and beliefs through reflection. In such type of writing, you are able to show that you are indeed a unique person.

College Fairs How To Get the Most Out of Them
College Fairs How To Get the Most Out of Them SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Every year, there are college fairs across the country. These fairs can be valuable tools to help you as you try to figure out which colleges you want to apply to, and eventually, which college you want to attend. In this article, I'll explain what a college fair is, how to find college fairs, and what you should do to get the most out of theexperience. What Is a College Fair? A college fair is an event where representatives from colleges come to a school, convention center, or other location to talk to high school students about the colleges they represent and answer questions. Some college fairs have been described as being like flea markets. Each college usually has its own booth, and the representatives are trying to get you to come to their booths. They give out brochures and try to convince you why you should be interested in attending their college. College fairs are a great opportunity to get information about the colleges that are represented. The representatives can answer specific questions about academics, campus life, or financial aid. Also, you can make relationships with the campus representatives. Sometimes students exchange information with the representatives, and the students are able to get further guidance and help with the college admissions and selection process after the fair is over. There are general college fairs in which all types of colleges are represented. Also, there are more focused college fairs, like college fairs in which all of the represented schools are performing arts colleges or HBCUs. Why Should You Attend a College Fair? College fairs can be beneficial in helping you find the college that will be the best fit for you. You can ask specific questions to college representatives who are knowledgeable about the admissions process and the schools they represent. You can get guidance about how to make yourself a qualified candidate for admission, and you can learn about the opportunities that various colleges can provide you. Furthermore, college fairs can expose you to colleges you may have not previously considered. Often, students are not aware of all of their college options, and fairs provide students with a good opportunity to learn about different schools. There are literally thousands of colleges, but in my experience, many students try to limit their college options to only a handful before doing adequate research. Finally, sometimes admissions officers are there representing the schools they work for. While most representatives won't remember the vast majority of the students they interact with at the fair, if you have a pleasant conversation and exchange information, you may make a positive impression on somebody who will be reading your application. How Do You Find a College Fair? There are a few ways to find a college fair you can attend. First, I recommend talking to your counselor. Your counselor may be able to help you find a local college fair or may be able to set up a fair at your school. Also, each fall and spring the National Association for College Admission Counseling holds freecollege fairs in cities across the country. To find local fairs, you can also google ââ¬Å"college fairsâ⬠and your state or city.If you canââ¬â¢t attend a college fair in person, you can still get the experience virtually at collegeweeklive.com or collegefairsonline.com. What to Do Before You Go Before you go to a college fair, you should be prepared.Do your research! Find out the schools that will be attending. Research the schools from their websites, guidebooks, college finders, and ranking lists. Determine which schools that will be attending the fair interest you the most.Write a list of questions, and putsome thought into your questions. The more specific and well-written your questions, the better youââ¬â¢ll come off to the college reps, and youââ¬â¢ll be more likely to get the information youââ¬â¢re seeking. Instead of asking ââ¬Å"How are the parties?â⬠, you can ask about the prominence of Greek life on campus or the frequency and types of on-campus events for students. If possible, come up with a few questions that show youââ¬â¢ve done your research. For example, you can ask about a specific recent on-campus event. You can reference a statistic or some information you learned in your research. Write questions related to the most important factors for you in picking a college. Ideally, the answers you receive will help you narrow down your list of schools and aid you in the college selection process.Bring a pen, paper, and a bag to hold all of the brochures youââ¬â¢ll be getting. Make sure the e-mail address youââ¬â¢ll be providing doesnââ¬â¢t sound too silly or unprofessional.Even though justinsbae@aol.com is a lovely address, college admissions officers may judge you negatively for it. Research the schools that will be at the college fair. What You Should Do at the Fair At a college fair, have a general game plan before you start aimlessly walking from booth to booth.Youââ¬â¢ll only have a limited amount of time, so map out a route to ensure that youââ¬â¢ll be able to visit the booths from the colleges that interest you the most. Some of these fairs are in huge convention centers. Some fairs will provide a map, and at other fairs, youââ¬â¢ll have to scan the room to locate the booths youââ¬â¢re looking for. Then you should visit the booths and speak to the college reps.Ask the questions youââ¬â¢ve prepared, but also be willing to have a conversation with the representatives and ask additional questions based on the information they provide.Be professional and courteous. Make eye contact while the representatives are talking and thank them for answering your questions. While I believe you should always try to be considerate, you especially want to make a good impression at a college fair. Many of these representatives are admissions officers or have close ties to the admissions offices at the colleges theyââ¬â¢re representing. Also, if you make a positive impression, the representative is more likely to want to be helpful. Some students correspond with representatives via e-mail after a college fair, and the students get additional guidance or answers to any remaining questions. However, if a booth is very crowded, you may just get an opportunity to listen to the representative give her pitch or answer questions from other people. After youââ¬â¢re done at a booth, jot down any pertinent information you received or your impressions of the college before going to the next booth. Make sure youââ¬â¢re able to visit the booths of the colleges that interest you the most, but be willing to go to other college booths, too.You may learn about a college youââ¬â¢re less knowledgeable about, and you may spark an interest in a school that you hadnââ¬â¢t previously considered. Additionally, some college fairs offer information sessions. Usually, the information sessions will have a specific focus like filling out college applications or financial aid. If possible, I recommend attending one of these sessions. Go to the session that's most relevant to your needs and you anticipate will offer you the most helpful information. If you're comfortable with the application process, then going to the information session on filling out applications may not be the best use of your time. You want to try to take advantage of all of the resources available to you at a college fair and make sure you're getting as much out of the experience as possible. EducationUSA International Virtual College Fair/Flickr What You Should Do After After you get home from the college fair, try to figure out which colleges made the best impression on you.Reflect on your conversations with the college representatives.Did the representative say anything that excited you about the college? Did you hear anything that made you feel like that school was a place you could see yourself at?Review your notes you took during the fair. Also, organize and review the material you collected.Make a folder or file for each college youââ¬â¢re considering to help you stay organized. If you decide that youââ¬â¢re definitely not interested in a school, get rid of its material. You can avoid clutter and focus on the schools youââ¬â¢re interested in. Then, continue to research the colleges that interest you.You can discuss your college options with teachers, counselors, and parents. If you know any current students or alumni from the colleges, talk to them about their experiences. You can also useNiche, a website that provides college rankings, offers student reviews of colleges. The reviews are about every aspect of the college, including financial aid, academics, parties, and the overall experience. Finally, if possible, plan campus visits. If youââ¬â¢re able to visit a college, you can get an official campus tour and often schedule a meeting at the admissions office. Sometimes youââ¬â¢re even able to sit in on a class.Thereââ¬â¢s really no better way to determine if youââ¬â¢ll enjoy attending a specific college than by actually spending time there. Attending a college fair is a good step to decide which schools you want to visit. What's Next? Eaarth by Bill McKibben - A New Devastated Planet Essay
Eaarth by Bill McKibben - A New Devastated Planet - Essay Example It should be noted that the author has a particular reason for adding another ââ¬Ëaââ¬â¢ in the spelling, i.e. he considers that humans are not living on the planet Earth. Humans have over-populated the planet with increased global warming and testing nuclear bombs on earth. It is the pollution and industrial sweep that have actually made the frozen tips of mountains to melt down, causing increased sea levels leading to floods. There are many other reasons behind the global warming that have actually led the author to think of a title which has an additional ââ¬Ëaââ¬â¢. (McKibben). The philosophy behind the entitlement of the book is not an illusion. The need of the hour is to address the climate change that is taking place with fast pace. It should be noted that Bill McKibben has also noted the fact in his work that it is already too late to make change, because the greatest damage that is likely to place is already underway. Humans have avoided the consequences a great deal, which is resulted in the present situation (McKibben). Bill McKibben has already been writing for many newspapers including The New York Times and Mother Jones etc. The subject matter of his writing has always been environment and nature. His first book was published in 1989 which remarkably educated people about climate change and its basics. His first book about climate change was more like an encyclopedia that was translated in many languages and published throughout the world. Despite the renounce of his book, the attitude towards climate change by major countries of the world remains avoidable. In other words it could be said that the book written on the subject of environment has been a part of encyclopedia but none actually tried to act on it (McKibben). It seems that Bill McKibben blames the bigger industries for the oil spills and ruining the marine life. There are many instances of his writing pieces that show anguish concern against the multinational organizations. According to his book Eaarth, it was noted that there are many oil companies that have marked increased profits within the time period of three years. This shows that companies are more interested to make maximum profits without having any considerations of the environment (McKibben). The philosophy of Bill McKibben is not any different than that of other environmentalists, such as John Muir and Edward Abby, but the approach is far effective than others. If we compare the written pieces of John Muir and Bill McKibben, it comes to understanding that John has rather discussed the beautiful scenarios of the planet E,arth whereas Bill McKibben shows the changing aspects of the environment that will not let the beautiful scenarios to remain seeable for the future generations (Muir). Readers of the essays by John Muir would surely understand the beauty of different parts of the world. The book takes the readers to the adventurous and beautiful ride to the world. But it should be noted tha t the climate change taking place in the world is deadly and can cause a number of fatalities such as volcanoes, tsunami, hurricanes and spread of deadly diseases which have already increased its toll (Muir). The philosophy of Bill McKibben is not just based upon writing implications but also practical intervening. Bill

Positioning Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Positioning - Research Paper Example n any organization by providing increased convenience, flexibility and controlling the users as well as influencing their service delivery options being offered, such as easy mobile accessibility at any time. The positioning strategy statement will provide guidance and the commitment by providing unrestricted and multi-channel access paths to informationââ¬â¢s to the members of the society. Further, the provision of operational coverage and service capacity with respect to iPhone and network delivery will be ensured (Ortnes, 2011). The organization, on the other hand, appears unique since it provides the commitment to the growth of the technological infrastructure that provide users with the freedom to work with the iPhone mobile device of their choice compared to other organizations. Positioning is a powerful tool in marketing that creates an image of the organization. Best business positioning doesnââ¬â¢t limit opportunities and choices. Some of the primary elements of positioning that the organization aims at include affordable prices of the iPhone that will enable customers to purchase without complaint (Kotler & Keller, 2012). In connection to this, as the rate of competition is gradually increasing, the organization is required to offer customer-friendly guarantees, return policies and warranties that are not being provided by other competitors. The organization is also expected to provide customized and customized services to the customers (Webster, 2011). The channel of distribution of the iPhone should be strategized. In consideration of the prices, quality, distribution, and services, the organization will automatically capture most customers compared to other organizations in a competitive environm ent. Having visited various places around the market, I realized that the majority of entrepreneurs in the field of marketing selling iPhone models were majorly selling the iPhone, 5c model. Gatsbys Mysterious Nature in The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald :: essays research papers
The 1920ââ¬â¢s was a time of prosperity, womanââ¬â¢s rights, and bootleggers. F. Scott Fitzgerald truly depicts the reality of this era with The Great Gatsby. Jay Gatsby, an enormously wealthy man, is famous for his extravagant parties and striking residence. However, this is all that is known about Gatsby. Even his closest friends continue to wonder what kind of man Gatsby actually is. The mysteriousness of Gatsby is demonstrated by conceivable gossip, his random departures, and the missing parts of his past. It is human nature for people to question the character of those around them, and in Gatsbyââ¬â¢s case, his friends did not have much information about him. Since little is known about Gatsby, his neighbor, Nick, must depend on misleading rumors about the man of mystery. At one of Gatsbyââ¬â¢s glamorous parties, a group of women gossip, ââ¬Å"One time he killed a man who had found out that he was the nephew to Von Hindenburg and second cousin to the devilâ⬠(61). Other guest place Gatsby as an illegal bootlegger or as a German spy during the war. While some of these stories may be true to his past, most are the outcome of societyââ¬â¢s ignorance of Gatsby. As Nick and Gatsby become more acquainted, Nick is invited to dine with Gatsby for lunch. They arrive at the restaurant, and eat while engaging with one of Gatsbyââ¬â¢s business partners. After the three enjoy their lunch, Nick bumps into Tom Buchanan, the husband of Nickââ¬â¢s cousin, Daisy. Attempting to introduce Gatsby to Tom, an ââ¬Å"â⬠¦unfamiliar look of embarrassment came over Gatsby faceâ⬠¦ I turned towards Mr. Gatsby, but he was no longer thereâ⬠(74). The reason for his disappearance is unknown, thus adding to the ambiguity of Gatsby. Throughout the book, Nick strings together pieces of Gatsbyââ¬â¢s past. However, his uncertainty grows as Gatsby reveals himself one day while driving to town, ââ¬Å"[Gatsby] hurried the phrase ââ¬Ëeducated at Oxford,ââ¬â¢ or swallowed it, or choked on it, as though it had bothered him before. And with this doubt, his whole statement fell to pieces, and I wondered if there wasnââ¬â¢t something a little sinister about him, after allâ⬠(65). With hesitation in his voice, Gatsby is surely not revealing the truth. The many holes in his storyline can certainly lead one to question the validity of his past.

Nurse Education Essay
Nursing has always seemed to be a profession in which the nurse is the follower of the doctor such as their personal minion only doing the nominal things that the doctor does not want to do. However in Florence Nightingaleââ¬â¢s Notes on Nursing and the article ââ¬Å"Quality and Nursingâ⬠by Hall, Moore, and Barnsteiner you can see that nurses can have a much larger impact on the healthcare system. In Nightingaleââ¬â¢s book the author takes an in-depth look at nursing and exclaims that it should not be the mere, ââ¬Å"administration of medicines and application of poulticesâ⬠(Florence 2). The article ââ¬Å"Quality and Nursingâ⬠looks into what nursing is and the potential it has to make a larger impact on the healthcare system. These two informative pieces make a claim that the nurseââ¬â¢s job has been inhibited by the lack of knowledge of what elements make a good nurse, and that it is time for them to not merely be a follower of a doctor but through bett er communication and continued education nurses could improve the healthcare system. Patientââ¬â¢s safety is a key issue in both documents and with the right nurse you can increase the efficiency of their safety. Nightingale notes that with ââ¬Å"bad sanitary, bad architectural, and bad administrative arrangements,â⬠it is impossible for a nurse to work effectively (Florence 2). What the author is trying to say here is that they do not really know how to keep things running in a smooth fashion in a hospital to increase the safety of the patients. This in turn has an adverse affect on the nurses because it keeps nurses from advancing and limits them to simply be administers of medicine and bandages. The author later goes on to reveal that the elements of nursing are really unknown in that the art of nursing has been one that tries to, ââ¬Å"unmake what God had made a disease to be, a reparative processâ⬠(Florence 2). In contrast the article on ââ¬Å"Quality and Nursing,â⬠says that today it is not the lack of knowledge in patient safety but a lac k of communication between nurses within a hospital and across the country. The writers of this article are making the point that patient safety has become a major focus for virtually every health system within the past ten years. For example it was noted in a study from 2000 that 3% to 4% of hospitalized patients died from adverse effects of being in the hospital (Hall 418). Another study in 2004 revealed that 1 in 200 patients died of preventable diseases that were caused from being hospitalized (Hall 418). Through evaluation of efficiency and effectiveness of operations in the hospitals they have noted that health professionals need to acquire skills relating to quality control just as much as having knowledge of how to perform surgery. Just as Nightingale exclaimed, in 1859, it is not the lack of advancement in medicine but rather the lack of patient safety that is holding nurses back from performing successfully (Florence 4). Within the articles one can see that both authors note the need for better quality of care in the hospitals. Nightingale is mesmerized by the fact that we can advance so much in the laws of motion and astronomy but we can not better understand the human body which is under observation every minute of everyday. The author is criticizing us on being more experienced about astronomy than simple hygiene. She suggests that there is something that the hospital could do to increase sanitation and better quality. While Nightingale shows that there is a need for better quality in healthcare she does not suggest anything that could be done. However, she states that the hospital should be responsible for it. On the other hand the article by Hall, Moore and Barnsteiner show that specific programs have been made to improve the quality in the workplace. They include that systematic improvement initiatives will improve, ââ¬Å"patient flow problems, communication around complex patients, and improv ing medication safetyâ⬠(Hall 419). Not only does it improve those things but also as these qualities improve it will increase the joy of the nurses in the work place in turn leading to higher patient satisfaction. With further education nurses can also serve as better patient advocates through, â⬠integration of care, provision of emotional support, education of patients and families, assistance with compensation for loss of function, and monitoring of patient statusâ⬠(Hall 419). Programs that aid with the implement of those topics patients and families can be introduced to a common ground between medicine and natural healing. When nurses are able to fulfill this balance there can be a better atmosphere for the patient and families as well as the medical staff.à Nightingale originally established this principle with her theory on what nursing is, and what it is not and one can see how it is finally being implemented today in the modern day of nursing. This being said the theories started in Nightingales time period really just needed time and realization to be understood. Through these points we can see that Florence Nightingale was a very smart individual and laid the basis for what nursing is today with her confrontation of the things hospitals need to improve on. This historic text relates directly to the modern text found today in the article on quality and nursing. Once one has read both articles it can be noted that there has been a tremendous effort to increase the quality of healthcare in the last ten years which can and will benefit the patient while also making the job of nurses more enjoyable. The shift in these time periods has led to greater initiatives that deal with the problems in the hospital by creating safer and more cutting-edge environments. All the resources that nurses have and will be exposed to in the modern world is leading to a more proficient health system that is increasing the quality and well being of the medical field.
